A record number of Queensland Dykes on Bikes took part in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade on March 1, which also marked the 20th anniversary of Dykes on Bikes Australia-wide.
A total of 56 riders made up the strongest ever Queensland pack who rode in their traditional colour – purple – alongside the Vixens Motorcycle Club.
For some of the Queensland girls it was their first Mardi Gras and a long ride to Sydney. However they braved the weather to ensure Queensland was proudly represented.
“Its just such an amazing experience, a buzz like no other, and every single one of us had smiles from ear to ear,” said club president Vick.
“I’d personally like to thank the fantastic group of Queensland women who made the journey to Sydney one of pure pleasure.
“It takes nerves of steel and balls to match to undertake the 18 hour ride in the rain but I was honoured to be in such good company,” she said.
The next Dykes on Bikes ride will be held on Sunday March 30th. The group will meet at the Wickham Hotel at 11am and ride to Scarborough.
