doin-a-priscilla-90.jpg Our blogger prepares to leave Brisbane for the tropical north, taking with him warm memories of his time out and about. (Don't worry, he's still going to blog - they do have the net in Townsville!) doin-a-priscilla-300.jpgDoing a Priscilla, that's what I call my move to Townsville. Clichéd, I know, but you can’t get any more iconic than that. Actually that’s a lie: think Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie in Simple Life and that’s us, the gay version.

Sunday night was the farewell of farewells. I moved to Brisbane in 2005 and since then Fluffy’s has become the one night my friends and I would dress to kill and live it up like rock stars. Well I would live it up like a rock star while my other two mates lived it up like a diva and a princess. So it was only suited that when the rock star and diva were leaving they celebrated their farewell at Fluffy’s seventh birthday.

As I stepped through those doors that night, every memory came flooding back. When you’re out clubbing with the people closest to you, there is this feeling that you get when your favourite song is on. Think that feeling manifest a hundred times over and that was my Sunday night. In actuality my farewell Sunday started on the Saturday, but that’s another story.

It was one of those strange nights where the ones living the married life and taking breaks from the scene over the last few months reappeared. It was definitely a night where old entourages mixed with new. Harry K and Stonebridge filled our ears with beats that kept us going the entire night.

But for me the highlight was Terri B. During her last visit she had invited me to dance with her on stage and due to the joys of the net we kept in contact. I never expected the surprise she had in store for me. After pointing me out literally right at the front of the stage in the middle of the club she thanked me for my support, wished me luck for my journey ahead, and dedicated the song 'Finally'.

I don’t care what anyone says, everyone can relate to that song in some form. I’ve wanted to live it up like a rock star writer and as the song goes, “Finally it's happening to me.” There's a feeling we get sometimes when we feel we are the centre of the universe: that was me and I loved it. Cheers erupted around me when Terri B brought me up to dance on stage. I remember looking out among the flashing lights at all the other familiar faces that have made Brisbane home. First, I see my boyfriend’s glowing face of adoration. I realise how much I’m going to miss him. Then I notice my two best mates, the Diva and the Princess.

The friendship I have with them is like nothing I’ve experienced. The way our lives interwove to lead to where the three of us are is something that still surprises me, it's shown me what true friendship and family are. Some say the gay scene has nothing solid and genuine; the people that have said that obviously haven’t explored and experienced the diverse gay scene of Brisbane. I embraced it. Because of that, I have had the privilege of meeting some of the most amazing characters who in all their diverse ways have influenced me.

As I’m writing this on my laptop I’m seated at the kitchen table with some electro-house playing on the stereo. The apartment is nearly packed. When you’re getting ready to move it’s hard not to think about your time at that particular place. It’s the same thing with friendship and relationships. They’ve all influenced and brought you to a particular point.

Tomorrow, I leave Brisbane and head up North to a place I’ve never even visited, to a new adventure. I’m going to miss the many friendships I’m leaving behind, but one of the main things I have learnt in Brisbane and it's what I always say is, ‘In the end it doesn’t matter where you end up, because life is a destination unknown but a journey worth sharing.’
