Volunteers have been honoured by the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities as part of National Volunteers Week.

The QAHC President’s Award for Volunteering was presented to Ron West, a volunteer on the Sunshine Coast who put in an enormous amount of work to make the Tropical Alternatives Film Festival such as success there.

Volunteer Appreciation Certificates were also awarded to 83 people who had volunteered for QAHC over the past year. Certificates were presented at volunteer thank-you dinners in Cairns and the Sunshine Coast, with the Brisbane event to be held after Pride.

“As a community based organisation the role of volunteers is key to our organisation,” QAHC general manager Paul Martin told Queensland Pride.

“Whether they are on the Board of Directors, conducting outreach, packing condom packs or helping run our resources centres, volunteers make a positive change to the lives of LGBT Queenslanders.

“We couldn’t exist without them,” he said.

If you are interested in volunteering at QAHC, you can find out more information at www.qahc.org.au/volunteer or ring (07) 3017 1777.
