Queens have a Ball PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 June 2008

The Queen’s Birthday Ball went off with maracas and hibiscus this year in a colourful display at Sapphire Tapas Bar on Sunday, June 8.

The Hawaiian theme was popular with almost half the crowd showing off a lei.

Over 200 people joined in to see a performance by Out Loud, the Cairns Gay and Lesbian Choir, and to dance into the wee hours.

Over $600 was raised for the LGBT Community Resource Fund and a generous donation from Malibu for drinks and products topped the night.

About 150 people got together at Turtle Cove on June 7 for a day of sun, fun and frivolity by the sea.

Many events were planned for what turned out to be a glorious tropical winter day with plenty of people getting around in nothing more than a slip of nylon!

There was a sandcastle competition, drag race, three-legged race and a dildo and handbag-throwing competition. The quad bike races and Sumo Suit Wrestling matches were the highlight of the day with much competition and laughs being had.

All of the events were free with wonderful prizes being given out from the very generous Turtle Cove management.

The raffle prize of a $500 package from Turtle Cove was warmly received by the winner and over $200 was raised for the LGBT Community Resource Fund.

During the weekend festivities the Gay Periodic Survey was carried out and awareness was raised for syphilis testing.
