Far North Queensland (FNQ) now has a dedicated LGBT Resource Centre open for use by both groups and individuals.
Apart from the office space the centre offers a large training room available for the community to hold meetings and workshops with film evenings, yoga classes and a spirituality group already up and running. Computers and other office equipment are available for community group and individual LGBT persons use.
There is a small but growing library of books and videos, a full kitchen to cater for centre functions and a spacious outdoor area waiting for a creative gardener to weave some magic.
Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC) Cairns LGBT Resource Centre was officially opened with a traditional Indigenous Smoking Ceremony late last year.
The centre caters for the health and wellbeing of the LGBT community and is staffed by two part-time Health Promotion Officers attending to the area of the general LGBT community, two full time Indigenous project workers and a receptionist. Their work takes in an area from Mackay to the Torres Strait Islands.
