The Highlands Inn, a self-proclaimed ‘lesbian paradise’ in New Hampshire (pictured), celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, coinciding with the legal milestone that saw the US state’s recognition of same-sex civil unions on January 1.
Innkeeper Grace Newman has hosted commitment ceremonies at the venue since the 1980s. According to 365gay.com, in the two weeks that New Hampshire’s civil unions law has been in effect, more than 100 same-sex couples have taken advantage of it.
Meanwhile, Europe’s first gay nursing home has opened in the German capital, Berlin. The four-storey nursing facility can accommodate 28 patients in state-of-the-art rooms with private bathrooms.
Potential residents have begun signing up to move into the facility.
