Hundreds of mourners have paid their respects to popular drag king Lil’ Romeo, who was murdered in an armed hold-up at a Browns Plains adult store last month.
Romeo (AKA Krissy Pye), 25, was found with multiple stab wounds when police responded to an alarm at the Everything Adult store at about 8.50pm on August 8. Romeo had started work there just a week earlier.
Tara Gilbert, 21, will face trial over the murder.
Over 100 people paid their respects at a memorial performance hosted by Romeo’s colleagues in the performance troupe, GangStars, on August 17, and about 400 attended her funeral on the Gold Coast two days later.
GangStars spokesperson Dita Brooke told Queensland Pride she felt “devastated” by Romeo’s death.
“She was a truly amazing, unforgettable presence in our lives.”
Plans are now underway to honour Romeo with a memorial float in next year’s Mardi Gras parade.
