Revellers at the Queensland Pride stand on Fair DayBrisbane is recovering from a jam-packed weekend of LGBT Pride celebrations, including the annual Rally, March and Fair Day.

Thousands of people flocked to the weekend’s celebrations, which marked the halfway point of the city’s month-long Pride celebrations.

The festivities began with a rally at the Roma Street Forum, Brisbane City at 10am, attended by several thousand people.

It was followed by a march through city streets which crossed Victoria Bridge before culminating at Musgrave Park, South Brisbane, where Fair Day was held.

Brisbane Pride spokesperson Suzanne Michaels declared the day a success, telling Queensland Pride “it was a great event with a really positive vibe. The weather was fabulous, the people were very well-behaved – it was a very successful day overall”.

Michaels said an estimated 10,000 people attended Fair Day, which boasted 25 stands from an array of cultural, community, social and business organisations, including the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC), Brisbears, the Queensland Police, Centrelink, Manhunt, Switch 1197 AM and Queensland Pride magazine.

A communal marquee featured a further twelve community organisations, while other highlights included several carnival rides, a sideshow alley, and continual entertainment featuring LGBT musicians and drag shows courtesy of local gay venues.

Michaels said Brisbane Pride was thankful for the community’s support.

“We’d just like to thank the community for its incredible support of what is really a massive undertaking, put together by a small army of volunteers,” she said.

Fair Day was followed by a number of events on Saturday night, including the Official After-Party at the Wickham Hotel and the L-Fling Women’s Dance Party at Uber nightclub, West End.

Events on Sunday included the Camp Classic Cinema movie marathon at the Globe Theatre, Fortitude Valley, featuring screenings of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Showgirls.

This is wonderful! 10,000 people attended the Gay Pride Fair. Regarding my email to Premier Anna Bligh & Tourism Queensland, complaining that there was no information about the Gay Pride Festival from Tourism Queensland office, no reply was forthcoming from the Premiers office but I have received an email from Emma Croft, Tourism Quensland. quote. 'Thank you for your email & further for your feedback.
You have raised some valid issues which we have addressed where possible. I have also forwarded your comments through to our Brisbane marketing & our regional director responsible for tourism marketing in the Region for their information and reference' Emma goes on to say, 'See our response on some Tourism Gay websites'. This website only mentions that 'There is a Gay Pride Festival in June'. Lets hope we can get some information from the Tourism office in Queen Steet for next years Festival. We thank you Emma Croft for your help.
