ABC (BOROUGH MUSIC)
The strength and commitment of the love for 80s pop is awe-inspiring.
As someone who enjoyed their oats-sowing years through those times
(yes, that explains me)
I’m not obsessed by the shiny trickery of such effusive pop.
However, I do recognize the longevity of the influence 80s music has
had over pop ever since.
So much so, that 80s bands are continually being resurrected and releasing solid, if not drop-dead, albums of new work.
This ain’t bad for codgers now in their mid-40s to mid-50s, who are
seeing the trends of their youth being revived by overly enthusiastic
kids of a new generation.
And now it’s ABC’s turn to have a crack at paying off their
languishing mortgages with this new collection documenting life in the
fast lane of the 21st century. Their trademark highly-polished,
overly-considered sound remains, as do the brass arrangements and
crowded production techniques.
Definitely one for the graying fans.
