JANET (VIRGIN)music2-250.jpg

Let’s get things straight. Despite the much-heralded news that Janet is making a fresh start in pop, she hasn’t.

Discipline actually demonstrates a lack thereof.

Just like her last album, and the one before that, and who can remember the one before that, sadly she’s a one-trick-pony.

Actually, she’s a one-trick-nag, nip’n’tucked to look like a pony.

Shame her music hasn’t had the same intensive focus as her cosmetic makeovers. Sure it’s pleasant enough, and semi-updated in sound, and the lyrics are even intelligible in parts, but as a holistic package, Discipline is still too trademark Jackson.

Music, art and fashion have changed; it’s Janet that can’t let go of her past.

Without the breathy delivery, cheesy interludes and formula RnB, Discipline could go somewhere. She’s no Mariah.
