p30-rocky-250.jpgOh, the horror!

Take a jump to the left to find one of the all-time great musicals. Thought that honour went to The Sound of Music? Think again. Where else can you find sweet transvestites, golden toy boys and more simulated sex than SBS on a Saturday?

Move over Maria. Richard O’Brien reshaped the musical landscape with this alien romp that pitted helpless innocents against the monstrous sex-fiend, Dr Frank N Furter (played with irrepressible relish by Tim “turn it up to eleven” Curry). He’s holding a convention for Transylvanians at which he unveils his newly created and astonishingly sexy lover, Rocky Horror. As you do.

Based on the acclaimed stage play by New Zealand’s favourite son, Richard O’Brien, The Rocky Horror Picture Show works because you care. Who doesn’t worry for Janet’s virginity? Who doesn’t get a little weepy when Rocky refuses Frank N Furter and everyone flies back to the planet Transsexual?

Oh. Rocky! Oh Brad! Oh Janet! Even Hedwig and his angry inch didn’t get this weird.
