Ricki Menzies is a woman driven by passion and a strong commitment to the health and wellbeing of her community.p29-rickimenzies-250.jpg

Although Ricki was 40 when she came out, it didn’t stop her getting involved, mixing, meeting and learning as much as she could about her community and doing what she could to improve the lives of lesbians.

Ricki recognised the isolation and lack of support for lesbians who, like herself, live on the Sunshine Coast, so she developed and facilitated Women 2 Women. The group was established in 2004 with the assistance of the Women’s Health Centre.

Ricki also sits on the steering committee for PFLAG Sunshine Coast and the Board of Queensland Association for Healthy Communities (QAHC). She has provided lesbian support group LOTSA with ideas and help to get established, she assists lesbians to get access to culturally appropriate counsellors and runs workshops on sexuality and gender identity.

Over and above all this work, Ricki is employed as the training coordinator for the Queensland Injectors Health Network (QuIHN), and has recently established a coffee night for women called the Lemon Lounge.

But Ricki is probably best known as the very friendly and outgoing blonde handing out safe sex packs at our larger parties and events. One of Ricki’s driving passions is to ensure lesbians understand the importance of good sexual health and practices.

Thanks Ricki, you’re doing an outstanding and tireless job and you are a fantastic example of how just one person can make a difference in the lives of many.
