One of Brisbane’s most hip and happening nightclubs, Family has always treated gays and lesbians as part of the clan.
On weeknights it’s a mixed venue, but on Sunday nights, Family becomes Fluffy and the gay community comes out to shake its booty alongside a smattering of hospitality workers.
Mainstay DJs Harry K and Neroli do a fine job keeping the crowds dancing but there are also frequent special guest DJs and shows featuring drag performers and dance troupes. At least one night each month is dedicated to a theme featuring interstate and sometimes international acts, and the Fluffy crowd loves to get into the spirit of the occasion.
You can keep up with the current themes by picking up a copy of Queensland Pride (or looking here).
Fluffy’s biggest event of the year is the Fluffy Festival, a day-long extravaganza with a carnival atmosphere and roving performers galore. The first was held in November 2007.
Queen Bees: Alexei Paige, Allure Dance Troupe and Ikin Dance
Turntable Wizards: Harry K, Neroli and special guests
Fluffy is keeping things pumpin’ right through September with the usual fun and frivolity you can expect each Sunday night. With Harry K and Karma along with the talents of Ikin Dance and Velvet Motion, the dance floors will keep on burnin’. But if you want something extra special, then check out Fluffy on September 14 as club turns divaesque with their Whitney spectacular. With music and shows inspired by Miss Houston herself, you can be assured you will be the Queen of the Night. Another night not to miss is September 28, Fluffy’s We Love the 80s party. Featuring the usual troupe plus special guests Nat Dunn and Mr Sparkles, this will be the perfect opportunity to don your knitted leg warmers and tank tops.
