Who are these people? I thought I was up on the latest gay male porn stars (oops, starz). Seems not if Owen Keehnen’s latest pornucopia of actor biogs and full frontal erections, Ultimate Starz (STARbooks), is to be believed. From Ben Andrews to Tre Xavier, it features 58 revealing interviews with male porn actors.

This book is so full on (so to speak) you’ll want to dip into it and dazzle your friends with your porn erudition. For example, cute youngster Trent Atkins was overjoyed to discover “leather, slings, water sports, orgies”.

“Still waiting for a boy-on-girl orgy, though, where the women tie me up, gag me, and fuck me with strap ons,” he enthuses.

Damian Rios gets my tick of approval for: “I would love to be in a gang initiation where all the members have to fuck me before I can get in.” You gotta love a slut! Particularly one that cute!

Derek Rivero seems mature beyond his 18 years: “Our jobs have nothing to do with our personal lives, and dating someone else in the industry allows you to escape obsessive jealousy and a potentially unhealthy relationship.” And: “Fidelity is just a coward expression of one’s own sexual repression.”

That’s the joy of the book; digging through the bullshit and the pretention to unearth the nuggets, such as Tober Brandt admitting: “In fetish, I’ve actually gone farther than the director planned. I’ve made cameramen leave the set and throw up, and one shoot I even had a co-star in tears when he saw seven hooks pierce my flesh.”

Hank Cruz admits, “I was a nerdy kid. I didn’t hit the gym until after I was told I would die from HIV/AIDS. Then suddenly I became desirable. Ironic as heck.” Heck? A man who fucks on screen for a living says ‘heck’?

Superstar Francois Sagat’s politically inappropriate request for an ideal porn set is: “No queens or sissies for sex partners”, and his chapter ends mid sentence. Sloppy editing. Equally irritating is the lack of a contents page, so you have to thumb through the book to discover who is subjected to Keehnen’s probe.

The photos are in black and white, no colour except on the cover. Colour seems verboten when it comes to performers too. Diesel Washington, one of the very few black actors interviewed, puts it in perspective: “You can count on one hand the instances where black models have crossed over into mainstream porn. Otherwise, it’s all thug-related, interracial or other specialty film.” And not an Asian performer anywhere to be seen.

In case you’re into trivia, it seems the star signs most likely to succumb to the lure of film exhibitionism are Aries, Gemini, and Libra. Hmmm, none of them is compatible with me. Damn!
