 In the fabulous human/puppet Broadway musical, Avenue Q, the Trekkie Monster sings that 21st Century self-evident anthem of the computer age, ‘The Internet is for Porn’. The sites (and sights) devoted to just about every variation on sexuality (animal, vegetable, mineral and puppet), legal and il-, have reproduced exponentially.
And just like the corner shop has been subsumed by the mall and the supermarket, so have small individual amateur sites been steamrollered by the porn conglomerates.
One battling amateur Aussie website keeping its head above water – just – is Blue Lady Productions, which is devoted to that holy of holies – the arsehole – and not only that, but the Aussie arsehole, although their DVD is titled Aussie Buttholes, obviously with both eyes firmly on the American market. Currently its first volume is on sale and was reviewed favourably in the U.S. magazine Playguy, which said: “The title pretty much says it all – if you’re a fan of the rosy starfish, this is the film for you.”
The first model is an aspiring bodybuilder: “The lad’s smile is infectious and you could crack a coconut on his chest. After giving us a lengthy look at his smooth pink pucker, the Aussie Arnold wanks to a creamy finish.” The second, all hairy arsehole and low hanging balls, is James: “His cute albeit imperfect body is a refreshing change of pace in a world of plucked and pampered porn stars.”
Blue Lady founder, Stephen, set up the website about five years ago, “primarily to offer the Butt of the Month calendar, which I honestly believed would grow exponentially as people spotted it on fridges all over the world. My expectations have been all but dashed because of the huge explosion in the number of available websites of a sexual nature and, of course, people profiling themselves in an adult concept to be downloaded through broadband.”
But why his particular concentration on the male arse?
“I think everyone is born with a particular fetish or preference and I don’t think they ever lose it as they get older. Be it big dicks, young guys, bears or bum holes. So with the DVD I sought to appeal to a niche that seems to have always been neglected by gay porn and still is from what I can see. I also hoped that women might be interested in male butts and be potential customers but it does seem the visual stimulus of porn registers infinitely more with men rather than with women. I think the whole human race is interested in butts, perhaps it goes back to our ape days, but unfortunately I have not been able to translate that into money.
“But as someone once said to me, ‘Do what appeals to you as there are bound to be other people in the world with the same attraction.’ He also said that if it falls over at least you have material that you can enjoy.”
Because of the problems associated with the sale of the DVD in Australia, it is sold through an American website.
